City of El Cajon Police Radio System
El Cajon, CA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The geographical area, which encompasses the city of El Cajon, is characterized by hilly terrain. As the city grew, police radio coverage degraded significantly. This condition finally led to a near-fatal shooting of a law-enforcement officer while on duty near the outskirts of the city. Although the city has received various recommendations from its equipment suppliers for improving signal coverage, none of the recommended measures, which the city implemented, corrected the problem. In addition, the city’s radio dispatch center was poorly designed, and had been determined to be the proximate cause of employee complaints.
ACSI's RESPONSIBILITIES:
The city engaged ACSI to perform a comprehensive signal coverage study and radio system renovation. Using data taken during said study, ACSI designed system modifications which reduced “dead spots” to 2% of the total target land area. Subsequently, the client expanded ACSI’s scope of services to include the redesign of its radio dispatch facility.
In addition, the city engaged ACSI to assist with the procurement and installation of ACSI’s recommended systems and equipment.
Finally, ACSI performed proof-of-performance tests on the contractors’ completed work.
